Assault with a Deadly Weapon by Vehicle
33-year-old James R. Haire of Sonora was arrested Sunday afternoon for charges stemming from an intentional collision that forced another vehicle off the roadway the day prior.
On Saturday, October 10th, at around 2:45 p.m., the Sonora Police Department received 911 calls regarding a 2000 Chevy Silverado over the embankment on Stockton Road, near Mill Villa Court. Officers responded and ultimately determined that the pickup was intentionally forced off the road. The other vehicle, a 1997 silver Honda Civic driven by James Haire, had fled the scene.
Officers learned that Haire and the driver of the Chevy are known to each other and had been involved in a dispute over the victim’s pickup for several days.
On Sunday, around 4:30 p.m., Haire was spotted by the investigating officer in the Timber Hills shopping center. Haire was ultimately taken into custody without incident and arrested for assault with a deadly weapon with a vehicle. Fortunately, the driver of the pickup wasn’t seriously injured. Certain aspects of this investigation are ongoing.
